A manufacturer should be evaluated against the needs of the specific project. A company suitable for prototypes may not be the right choice for high-volume production, and a low quoted price does not by itself confirm manufacturing capability.
Confirm technical fit, including materials, processes, tolerances, part sizes, production volumes, secondary operations, and whether important work is performed in-house or subcontracted.
Review relevant quality controls and certifications. Ask about inspection equipment, traceability, documented procedures, calibration, testing, capacity, typical lead times, minimum order quantities, and how changes in demand are handled.
For higher-risk purchases, buyers may use samples, first-article inspection, audits, references, or trial orders as part of qualification.
